Three-vehicle collision in New York leaves 1 injured, 3 dead
A multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Dec. 16 in Phelps claimed the lives of three individuals and left one injured, according to reports. One other individual who was involved did not report any injuries.
Authorities stated that the three-vehicle accident occurred about 10:50 a.m. as a driver of a westbound vehicle on Bostwick Road drove through the intersection’s stop sign and into the path of an SUV heading north on state Route 14. The force of the impact caused the SUV to crash into an oncoming pickup truck driving on state Route 14, killing two people riding in the SUV and the pickup truck driver.
First responders pronounced all three of the individuals dead at the scene, and medical personnel transported the SUV driver to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The report did not disclose the severity of SUV driver’s injuries. The driver who reportedly disregarded the traffic sign did not require hospitalization.
When they responded to the scene, law enforcement officials restricted both north and southbound traffic on State Route 14 while crews conducted an investigation and cleared the roadway. Rescue personnel from the Oaks Corners Fire Department assisted with the accident. The cause of the crash was still under investigation.
When a driver speeds or runs a stop sign, that driver puts other motorists in jeopardy of becoming seriously injured in a car accident. If a person dies from the actions of a negligent driver, the victim’s grieving family could possibly hold the driver responsible for their accident-related losses such as medical and burial expenses. If the decedent was a family’s primary wage earner, a family could also receive compensation for future contributions of income. A lawyer may be able substantiate the family’s claims of driver negligence through a wrongful death claim.
